Natural Beauty: Acupressure Facial Benefits
Have you heard of an acupressure facial and how it may benefit the health of your skin? Over the next few weeks, I’m looking at different aspects of natural beauty including holistic and complementary practices. In preparation for this, I grabbed myself a cup of herbal tea and sat down with Barbara for one of our “let me down load all your knowledge and share it with our readers” catch-ups.
Soon into our talk about natural, complimentary skincare practices she was singing the praises of acupressure facials. I think she realised from the blank expression on my face this was something I’d never heard of before! While I’ve had acupuncture before (it was brilliant for back pain and sciatica while I was pregnant) I’d not heard of acupressure facials.
What Is Acupressure Facial?
Acupressure promotes healthy skin by improving overall health and well being to the whole body. Treating the acupoints of the face encourages the flow of Qi, which is a concept fundamental to Chinese medicine and increases circulation and blood flow throughout the skin on the face while helping to remove toxins. Cosmetic acupressure helps you look healthier from the inside out.
The ear Master control points have a positive balancing effect on the autonomic system and endocrine system. These points are very effective at relieving stress and anxiety that can show up on the face. These acupuncture points are commonly treated with press tacks and left in for more extended periods of time as recommended by acupuncturists.
Acupressure Facial And Massage
In conjunction with the acupressure, essential oils blends can be used in facial massage and tailored to the skin condition (normal, oily, dry and combination skin). Practising acupressure on a daily basis is an excellent way to naturally reduce stress, colds and other blockages in the body.
Modern Reflexology has some great suggestions for self-practice. I love their “blemish free” pressure point located a centimetre below the lower ridge of the eye socket. It should be right below the iris and near the cheekbone. Press this pressure point on both the sides of your face. Place your index fingers and press this point for at least 60 seconds. By accessing this pressure point, you will have reduced blemish marks and acne free skin.
This week we are offering you the chance to win an Exfoliating 2 in 1 Mask and Scrub (valued at $39.95).
